Coolant sensors

Alright so I'm finally going to put my electric cooling fans on a thermal switch after forgetting to turn them on a couple of times...

I bought a kit from summit racing that has the relay, circuit breaker, temp sensor ect, my question is where is the best place to put the temp sensor?

The truck is a 1988 K5 blazer with a built 350 (1969 block, 1972 heads, edelbrock performer intake, holley 770 carb)

There are only two coolant ports on the engine. The coolant temp gauge is in the driver side head, and there is one more port next to the thermostat housing. My question is would the fan sensor do better in the head or intake? BTW the kit turns the fans on at 190 degrees and off at 170 degrees.
