i've been looking at upgrading my 350 sbc to make some more power and i'd like to get some thoughts from those that are running a 383 style sbc stroker on the street. lookin to see what kind of cam and compression you went with, head style (aluminum/iron) with larger or smaller runners (cnc/as cast), what you use it for (cruising, towing, street/strip), things like that. I use my truck as a hotrod, but it also doubles for a truck (get stuff from lowe's, or HD: wood, dirt, mulch, etc). I go to the dragstrip pretty much never, i'd like to go, but it doesn't happen, I mostly romp on the street light-to-light style.
so i'd like to know: what is your stroker in, and what do you use it for? how is it as a street engine?
going in my truck:
1950 Chevy 3100 5 window
350 sbc, .040" over, KB .100" dome, gm rods/crank, World Sportsman heads 72cc, 9.6:1 comp
Lunati 275 streetmaster cam, 225@.050, .477" lift w/1.5, 104ICL/108LSA
Performer RPM intake, QuickFuel 680vs carb, longtube fenderwell headers, HEI
TH350 trans, stage II shift kit, clutches, steels, 2600 Raptor stall (kinda tight)
Ford 8.8", 3.27 gear, Aussie Locker, Custom Ladder Bar/Torque Arm
weighs 3,400lbs w/full tank and driver (180#).
i'm looking to go with better heads for sure. looking at AFR 180/195, Speier ECONO PF195/CNC Import 222cc. the power is made with good heads so i've been really liking the cnc stuff, I just want to know if it's worth it. I want to keep the same intake and the same carb (carb for now, I can go bigger). keeping the headers, trans, stall, rear gear, pretty much everything except the engine and what it needs to run. I like the rear gears because I run a 26" tire (295/50-15) and a 3speed on the highway isn't making any friends.
the truck moves pretty well now, i'd guess it makes a legit 350hp, my drivetrain can handle 500hp/tq, so i'd like to get the output closer to that. I figure I can get a 450tq stroker and have everything live and keep me happy. I was thinking of keeping the same cam for a while and then maybe upgrading to the next size up (230-235* @.050") depending on how well it works out. i'm rockin' the hyd. f/t because that's what I can swing. I can go roller when I get a better job down the road.
let me know what you're running, what you've run, etc.
thanks,
Ben
