I have a belt driven fuel pump that keeps eating the teeth off the belts. The pump runs off the crank via cogged belt. I have tried steel pulleys with 1/2 width Kevlar belt and aluminum with 1/4 width (link at bottom) The steel pulleys ate the belt in 100 miles and the aluminum pulleys ate it tonight after 2,000 miles. Any ideas?
I have the belt set fairly loose as I have been told that cogged belts do not need much tension. Also, too much tension causes the fuel pump to oscillate up and down as the mount is not the best in the world (the photo is of someone else's truck with the same pump set-up as mine).![]()
