Hi I own the 2002 Mercury Cougar with the 2.5L V6. If I have damaged the IMRC linkage and have rigged it since damaging it, Would this cause a hard and long starting condition? Because I have done some research and at startup the IMRC supposed to control idle air speed somehow besides the IAC. Now would my problem be an injector problem? EGR Problem? or IAC problem? Or fuel pump problem? or what Ford calls it on my vehicle is The Fuel Delivery Module. What do you guys think Because been getting alot of different answers for this problem, and it started to happen after I had to rig the IMRC back to the throttle Linkage that controls the rear Intake Manifold Valves, but it is only hard starting when the engine is cold, after it has been started it starts right up when the engine is warm already. Now if 4 out of the 6 spark plugs are fouled and not igniting the air/fuel mix properly, would this cause a hard and long starting condition?, Because last summer my water pump went and I overheated my engine to the point of it shutting down on me. Luckily I did no real internal damage, because after I replaced the water pump I have had no problems with starting or it running, but the end electrode on 4 out of my 6 plugs are white. I have changed numbers 2 and 5 cause I had a missfire code for the #2 cylinder come up upon an acceleration one day, so i decided to change the #2 and 5 plugs, but the rest I have not changed, so should i first start with the plugs and then work my way to other things?
