[B]Hi y'all,
I was hoping to get some input concerning adjusting roller rockers while engine is idling!! I just installed a fresh set fo scorion 1.5 roller rockers on my 68 Chevelle SS396 clone. I didnt get much info or specs w/the car which makes it difficult to fiine tune. It came w/a crate 383 stroker w/all the usual upgrades, air-gap edelbroeck dual plane, MSD 6AL,Demon 750 carb V.S., unknown alumn. heads & moderate to mild cam, a 200R 4spd. auto trans, 12 bolt posi .410, H.D 4 link rear w/ladder bars etc..& approx. 20K on the clock. It ran rough but a quck compression showed 190+psi in all 8 cyl, so I instld. new plugs/wires/filters/fluids, reblt & pre-tuned the carb..etc.etc..One of the scorpion roller rockers was cracked so I get a fresh set under warranty. I researched & asked how best to pre-set my initial zero valve lash & everybody has their own special version. They clattered after warmed up & test drive, so I figured the most accurate way was to adjust them when motor was running for the lifters to pump up. I backed off each one at a time till it really clattered & snugged it till it was quiet plus a 1/2 turn. They sound much better but still clatter a bit. What is the best way to adjust them when the motor is idling? Like I did or differently? should I check them when the motor is cold & lifters have bled out & reset them, or are roller rockers inherently noisy?
thanks very much for any replies, regards boulonman:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
