Hello all, I'm new here. Looking for some different points of view on what I'm planning for my 86' K30 over the next few years (realistically). Here's what I've got, 1986 K30, 88,000 miles, stock 454 with peanut port heads, 4 speed transmission, Dana 60 up front, Corporate 14 rear, with 3.73 gears.
Objective: build the truck to both compete in the area street legal 5600# pickup pulling class & still be able to drive around locally, @2000 miles/year on pump gas. I live an hour away from any city, so no traffic issues.
Pulling class rules I (should) follow pertaining to the engine are: 470 ci max, 750 cfm/choke plate max carb, 6000 RPM max, no nitrous either.
Here's what I'm thinking so far, but nothing definite yet: 750 Holley D.P./mechanical secondaries, torker II intake, Hooker super comp headers/3" pipes to super 44 flowmasters. Also looking at the AFR 265 or 290 cylinder heads, not sure which though. No plans for the internal yet.
The engine must be reliable, don't want to be fixing every year. Hoping for around 600 HP & torque, I'd like it to sound pretty mean too. Thanks for the input.
