I have a 1988 Chevy 1500 pick up truck. Today when I was driving, I stopped at a red light and I notice my truck started idling a little rough ,so I pulled over and started smelling antifreeze and white smoke coming from tail pipe. once I got home I started pulling spark plugs and on number 6 cylinder water came out . The engine never ran hot or gave any sign of trouble up till I stopped at the red light. My question is ,is it normal for a head gasket to blow like that . and I was wondering is there anyway to check it out before I tear it down ? can a compression test tell me anything? any advice would be great .
