Mechanical Oil Temperature Gauge question

I have an old Stewart Warner mechanical oil temperature gauge. The lead for the sending unit is a hard wire /cable but is too short since this is going in a Corvair and the gauge is designed for a front engine.

Do any of you know if there is a way to splice in an ‘extension’ so I could run the gauge all the way to the dash? The connector / cable looks the same as a mechanical water temperature gauge.
