So I order a new oil pump for BBC (454) for standard volume standard pressure. I get a HV pump by mistake. I try again. Even calling specifically moroso to ask part number for a MarkIV 454 standard pressure and standard volume. Part number 22175. OK, ordered.
The pump arrives and in the box with the pump and screen is a bag with another spring and retainer pin in it. No written instructions or documentation on the spring. Not part of the parts list. Nothing at all about it anywhere.
I look at summit racing to see what another site says
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mo...make/chevrolet
nope, no mention of 2nd spring. Same on moroso site or anywhere else I looked.
(the casting is M77 so it's a melling pump actually, not moroso)
So I call Moroso tech support to ask about the undocumented parts. They tell me the other spring is "an extra". Huh? Extra WHAT. "Oh, I dunno, I think the one in the bag is if you want higher pressure". Let me check. FF a bit and Moroso comes back and says the spring in the pump is a high pressure spring. 15psi higher on avg than stock. If I want standard pressure I have to replace it with the one in the bag. I wonder which to believe? What, throw it in the engine and see? LOL
I'm surprised that a company the size and age of Moroso can be so casual about oil pump pressure springs and description or instructions on such a part to go into people's engines. Or parts in general. Geesh. What a PITA.
