Hi, I just finished replacing all the usual maintenance parts (plugs, wires, fluids, filters, belts ...etc on my new 68 Chevelle SS396 clone. The 383 stoker came from a unknown source w/all the usual upgrades (dualplane itnk, 750 Demon carb, full MSD ign.sys, hooker headers (wrapped) aluminum heads, a mild to moderate cam, 200R 4spd auto Ovr.drv. trans w/a 12 bolt posi & H.D cntrl arms & ladder-bars. It ran poorly when I first got it, I found all the scorpion 1.5 roller rockers were cracked at the nose & recieved & installed a lifetime replacment set. I re-sealed all the intk. & exh. gskts, had my Demon 750 fully rebuilt and tested on a mule motor. To my surprise, when I first fired her up she now runs even worse, I can hear an exhaust leak on psgr.side, & lifters ticking, the power is not even close to what any average built sbc should perform. The timing is 12 TBC & 32 degrees full mechanical advance by 2800rpm, I run only premium w/octane booster & the rebuilt carb is fine tuned & performs well. In other words, all the basics check out, as well as a quick compression test showing all healthy 8 cylinders being between 185-192 PSI. the brakes arent rubbing, & suspension is not binding, when I replaced the rockers, all the lifters showed to still being able to pump up. Where would you guys start looking considering everything I just re-did?
