I have recently inherited a 53 Studebaker from my father. It is still in a project phase. It has been sitting in a garage for 6-8 years. Before this, it was running.
After taking care of the fluids and charging up the battery, I could not get the motor to turn at all. The starter gear is simply grinding over the flexplate in very slow loud thuds. I haven't tried to many times as I don't want to wear down the teeth.
I am not a total newb with a wrench, but I am hardly an expert by any means. The only ideas I have had so far is the spray some kind of BreakFree in to the spark plug holes, let it settle in, then maybe try to rotate the engine using a socket and a bar on the crank, just to get some movement, then try again.
Any other suggestions or thoughts? Help is greatly appreciated.
