I purchased a Silverado with the 327 V8 in Nov 2013. After my first oil change at the dealer, I drove approx. 2000 miles and my "low engine oil" light came on. I took it back to the dealer, where all of my maintenance is done, and had them check it. It was almost 2 quarts low or more. I asked if maybe they forgot to top it off. they topped it off and then about 2100 miles later, after checking oil every week, I noticed it dropped excessively (to me) on the dipstick. I took it back to the dealer to which they started the oil consumption test. 2 tests later they determined there was blow by. I did buy an extended warranty, but it only will cover if, during the tear down, they find a manufacturers defect or some kind of break, but will not cover if only "normal wear and tear on the rings and pistons". At 80k miles? "normal wear and tear at 80k miles"? to avoid an engine tear down can I try using a heavier weight oil or have the computer reset to minimize the V8 to 4 cylinder shutdown. Thanks
