Any idea on the early 90's "vortec" heads fromt he 4.3's, do they flow well / as well?

Have a pair off a 94 boat with casting 14094768 -

curious if these produce good low end torque?

couldnt find any flow numbers online -

thanks!

So I pulled the heads of a built 355 with flat top piston only to find some pitting in cyl # 6. See pictures. Do you suggest I just hone cyls only or tear down and send block to machine shop/bore? Any suggestion thoughts experience appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1985 ford bronco with a fresh rebuilt engine and when i got it, before the engine was rebuilt the teeth on the flywheel were wore down and it would grind and make a god awful screeching sound, and after i rebuilt the engine i put a new flywheel on it and its grinding again, im wondering if the flywheel that was put on it factory is 157 tooth or 164 or any ideas on how to stop this from happening because i cant keep splitting the transmission and engine to put a new flywheel in it every month

Flathead V8-60 new heads question

I have a Ford V8-60 and the opportunity to get a set of offenhauser heads. There are NOS units. My thought is they should bolt right on.
I have seen other "Meyer?" performance heads with a note that domed pistons are required.
Does anyone have experience with the Offy heads on a V8-60?

While trying to loosen water neck bolts, the both heads broke off. Luckily there's part of the bolts still sticking out of the manifold. What's a good way to take them out? I've tried Vise Grips but no.I've tried spraying PB Blaster, nothing. Aluminum intake, steel bolts. 454

Flat tappet cam for 350 w/Vortec Heads

I'm doing a budget build 350. It had 882 heads on it but I picked up a pair of vortec 906's. It's probably going in an '82 Malibu wagon with a stock automatic, stock converter and 2.73 rear gear. Will be a daily summer driver/cruiser. I'd like to be able to run 87 octane in it. It'll have 1 5/8" headers and 2 1/2" dual exhaust. I'll have right around 9:1 compression with the dished pistons I'm running. I'm looking to get some good horsepower while not losing the bottom end torque it'll need to get moving with highway gears.

I'm looking through all the cams trying to figure what'll work best. Part of what I'm wondering is how well the newer, high rams will last vs the older slyle cams.

For older style cams, I was considering Summit's SUM-K1103
Basic Operating RPM Range: 1,600-5,200

Choppy Cam is Smooth, What is Wrong?

$

I have a howards rattler cam for my ford 400ci. I rebuilt my engine and howards said this would be a good cam for my build. When i had less than 200 miles on the build the idle was very lopey/choppy. Now after driving the idle has smoothed out almost sounding stock. What should i look at to fix this? Performance is still there and the truck drives well, just needs a but more tuning. I loved the lope but dont want to sacrifice power to get it, however tge cam was advertised as a choppy cam so it makes me think something is wrong.

I Have tried to research this without much luck. Hopefully someone can offer some good pointers. Thanks all.

I have already contacted howards, but they werent very helpful and stopped responding. Probably wouldnt buy from them again because of that.

Tachometer fluctuation

My tachometer will work and then go to zero, randomly. It's an electronic tachometer. It seems to work right when its working. I think I asked about his a while ago but I cant find the post on it. It's not the distributor because I just put in a new one and the same problem was happing on the new one and old one. Not sure what to do. I was thinking about taking the tachometer apart. I already did one time to see what was in there but maybe I will mess with it more.

Hello everyone new member here. And I’m new to the whole hot rod seen so bare with me. I’m not completely sure about what parts will interchange on the first gen small block to the vortec engine like mid 90s. I have a lot of good parts for the first gen style like cam heads intake etc. my question is if I was to buy just a vortec block and leave things like the crank and pistons in it would I be able to bolt on the heads and intake from the first gen sbc as well as use a flat tappet cam and lifters? Any input would be appreciated thanks
